Grand Knight Report — Worthy Brother Knights (2017):
January We would like to wish all of our members and their families a very Happy and Healthy New Year. As we begin a new year I encourage all to continue their participation with the council and ask those who have been away for some time to review our Council Activities and help support one of our programs. We are confident the attendance' at our meetings will continue to grow, an informed council is an active council. We start our New Year with many activities on the schedule; we will host degree ceremony. NFL championship Sunday Super bowl Party and Polar Plunge................ |
February We are running on all cylinders here at Council 5890 for the start of 2017. First, I would like to thank our membership team for putting together a great list of candidates for our 1st and 2nd degree ceremony on Jan 20th. As I've mentioned, since becoming Grand Knight, the future is in the unborn. We now have a great group of newly minted knights to help us in our continued forward movement of this council. I still urge all to keep identifying those members of our church and community who will make a great addition to this council's future. March A quick reminder, this year Lent be-gins on Ash Wednesday March 1st and ends on Easter Sunday April 16th. As Catholics we are reminded that lent is the season of preparation for Easter. A penitential season marked by prayer, fasting, abstinence, and almsgiving. Our council will renew our commit- ment to St. Mary's and continue to work with Fr. Maurer in all of our,church's needs. Our membership team has taken up my request to pay special attention to recruitment and retention. I ask all members to continue the push for "The Power of One". With................ |
April During this Lenten season I would like to send out an important reminder to our membership! Membership Requirements: Knights of Columbus provides that eligibility for membership in the Knights of Columbus is limited to men who are "practical Catholics in union with the Holy See." An applicant for membership must be at least 18 years old on his last birthday. Being a practical Catholic in union with the Holy See means that applicants and members accept the teaching authority of the Catholic Church on matters of faith and morals, aspire to live in accord................ |
May As we begin our month we would like to invite you to join us at the council on May 1st at 7:30pm for our Annual Crowning of Mary. This year we will have two new statues replacing the ones which served so well, but were beyond repair. The new statues of our Blessed Mother and St. Bernadette were donated by a very generous anonymous donor. As the month continues we ask you to keep an eye on our calendar which you can access through our website www.lourdes5890.org. We will need all hands on deck when our Association hosts the annual Carnival................ |

July As I begin my second year as Grand Knight, I would like to thank our new team especially our newly minted DGK Patrick Nieman. We have some Officers who have rotated thru some chairs and we hope you're up to the new challenges ahead. We thank PGKs Walter Kozlowski and Kevin Strommer for all the years of service as Officers in those many different positions. As I pointed out during my July 2016 GK's report, we continue to invite all PGK's to our Officer's/Leadership meetings, your continued support and advice is vital to the success of our Council................ |
August Our summer is in full swing and while many of us are on vacation, I would like to wish you all safe travels. While at your destinations we would like to encourage you to visit www.masstimes.org in order to find mass schedules at local churches. We invite you to join us in the observance of the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary on Tuesday Aug. 15 at 7pm at St. Mary's in praying the Rosary as we do every Tuesday. September As our summer vacations come to a close, we hope all have enjoyed their time away with their loved ones. OWe would like to thank our Golf Committee led by our Chairman FDD, PGK Rich Cutter and Association President Tony Gabriele for organizing a great a day during the Annual Golf outing at West Point on Monday Aug. 21st Events at the council have been slow during this summer, but I would like to invite all members to get involved.................. |
October As we prepare our homes and our families for the fall season and its beautiful colorful landscapes. We would also like to invite you to prepare your hearts and minds by joining us every Tuesday at 7pm at St. Mary's church in Praying the Holy Rosary. As we continue to sell our NFL raffles in support of our council programs, I ask you to please volunteer some of your time, come out and support those selling efforts. If your time doesn't permit I ask that you reach out to anyone in our leadership, so they can make some tickets available to you, so you can support and sell at your convenience................ |
November As we begin to close out 2017 and start to prepare our homes and families for the holiday season, I invite all to join us at St. Mary's on Wednesday Nov. 1st in celebration of All Saints' Day in honor of all our beloved Saints. Before our holiday schedules get too busy, we have scheduled an appreciation dinner for all members and their families on Sunday Nov. 5th at 5pm. All are invited and encourage to attend, we plan on having a full dinner spread and please feel free to BYOB (favorite bottle of wine). This will be a very informal gathering, dress comfortable and I promise to keep our appreciations and................ |
